Cookie Monster Worthy!

On a random evening I suddenly got a craving for a warm chocolate chip cookie. There are some amazing bakeries on the Upper West side and SOHO but I was in the West Village and didn't want to go far. Searching the web I stummbled upon a place called Milk & Cookies bakery. How cute is that! What more could I ask for? A few minutes later I found myself looking into the windows of the bakery, exited to see if the cookies are as good as the reviews said. I ended up getting four different kinds, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Mint, and Double Chocolate (can you tell I like chocolate?) and a a glass of ice-cold organic milk. Such Happiness! It was exatly what I was hoping for, a scrumptious cookie with melted chocolate chips, made the way a tasty cookie should be. I know there are other wonderful bakeries in the city but I'm convinced that this is the best one in the West Village. If you're in the area, try stop by!

Dinner at Perla

How do you find out about Perla? There is just the address and a phone number or their website, they're not on opentable.com and they're not in many publications, yet. An amazing new place has definitely kept a low profile but that's not holding it back.

It's incredible how easy it is to love this restaurant.

First off, the service is outstanding. There is definitely a great effort from waiters and managers to make you feel special and taken care of. From the moment you walk in you're greeted by the nicest hostess with an actually genuine smile that let's you know that Perla is happy you're there.

If you have to wait to be seated, usually no more then 15 or 20 minutes, a good-looking bartender will take good care of you with a delicious cocktail and in no time you are lead to one of the tables with a romantic candle glow.

So, to start of a delicious meal we begin with a...
This one has a hint of spice and comes on a bed of light yogurt. I wouldn't think that a shrimp and yogurt could be a good combination but in this case it was perfect. This is snack will make you wish there was more of it but alas, there's only one. Not to worry, there are more good things to come.

As a special of the night the server recommended a meatball in a bit of red sauce, covered by melted cheese. The delicate, slightly salty pork meat and cheese, can't go wrong. Great appetizer!

One of the things that's always recommended, and rightly so, is the gnocchi. We were sold when it was described as "home-made, simple and delicious". This has to be good. And it was! Really was! Amazing soft gnocchi in a spicy tomato and ricotta sauce were incredible, no other way to describe it.

If you're a foie gras fan you'll be happy to know that it was superb, the best I've had in a while. Delicately tender with a smooth and silky texture, served with cipollini mostarda sauce. A truly delectable dish.

Now you might say, "oh, it's like chicken, how bland and unexciting". I would leave this way of thinking at the door and try it at Perla. Description is simple but it was anything but that. The meat was tender and juicy accompanied by mushrooms, brussel sprouts and a delicious sauce. They definitely do it well here.

Our plates were totally clean after every dish. Bread basket contains everything you'll need to soak up the sauces. Starting with the prawn ending with the chicken nothing was wasted here.

I was at Perla (going back again in two days) and you should be there too!

The website is perlanyc.com, but you wont find anything there.

I say go to:
24 Minetta Ln
or call 212-933-1824 for a reservation.

That is all...  (tell them nycanna.com sent ya)

Lychee- Licious!

BondSt sushi is an amazing restaurant with delicious fresh fish and creative interpretations. What many people don't know is that there is a very cool and see-and-be-seen BondSt bar & lounge downstairs. It's a dimly lit place with couches and candles, very romantic for dates. When I'm there I have to order a Lychee Martini. I think it's one of the best in the city. Very crisp, clean, lightly sweet cocktail is garnished by a lychee fruit. It's tempting to eat it right away but I suggest finishing the cocktail first, that way it can soak up the drink and will be a burst of sweetness. It's perfect, no other way to describe it!!!
